Patrick Henry is Hanover's most famous son and he argued court cases in one of the oldest courthouses in the country, also located here. Hanover's almost 300-year history has provided over 39 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places and numerous Civil War battlefields.

The historic Hanover Courthouse, built in the 18th century and was in use as a courthouse until the 1970s, was where Patrick Henry argued the famous Parson's Cause in 1763. Today, the courthouse is used for meetings, weddings, and events.
Having hosted George Washington, Lord Cornwallis, and the Marquis de Lafayette, this nearly 300-year old historic colonial-era tavern is an integral part of Hanover history. It even served as a post office from the late 1700s until 1911! Today, it has been restored and offers tours, cultural events, and a restaurant on the premises.
